INFORMED CONSENT FORM for RESEARCH
You are being asked to take part in a research study. You must be 18 years or older to participate. Your participation in this study is voluntary. You have the right to be a part of this study, to choose not to participate or to stop participating at any time without penalty. Participation in the study (or lack thereof) will not affect your standing/grades at NCSU.
The purpose of research studies is to gain a better understanding of a certain topic or issue. You are not guaranteed any personal benefits from being in a study. Research studies also may pose risks to those that participate. In this consent form you will find specific details about the research in which you are being asked to participate. If you do not understand something in this form it is your right to ask the researcher for clarification or more information. A copy of this consent form can be requested through your lecturer. If at any time you have questions about your participation, do not hesitate to contact the researcher(s) named above.
The purpose of this project is to investigate the impact of the use of the MONA app on student motivation and performance in the FTD 201/TT 570 section of a college class at NCSU. Findings will be used to target instructional methods and technologies to enhance motivation and performance in higher education.
If you agree to participate in this study, we ask that you allow us to have access to your performance in the course activities (e.g. quizzes, exams, assignments) and MONA app usage from the course FTD 201/TT 570. Alongside this you will be asked to fill in questionnaires assessing your motivation and study strategies. The principal instructor from your course will transfer the grades into a secure database so that nobody except for the researchers will have any access to your identity. All the information you provide in the experiment will be kept confidential to the full extent allowed by law. Data will be stored securely in computer files that are password protected. No reference will be made in oral or written reports, which could link you to the study. If you chose not to participate, you will still complete activities as part of course requirements, however, your information will not be used for the research study.
There are minimal risks associated with participation in this research.
The potential benefits of the intervention may lead to deepening your understanding of activities embedded within college level education courses. In addition the goal for the study is to investigate how students complete course activities and subsequently make recommendations for improving instruction to facilitate students’ engagement and performance in such activities.
No compensation will be given for the study
If you have questions at any time about the study or the procedures, you may contact the researcher,
